Supply and Trading

Tamoil trades in the international market through Tamoil Overseas Limited, a company which trades in crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals. The company is predominantly active in the Mediterranean region, North West Europe and Africa and is increasing its activities in Asia and the USA.

Crude Oil

The bulk of Tamoil Overseas Limited’s crude oil supply and trading takes place between various producers and suppliers in North Africa (Libya/Algeria), West Africa (Nigeria), the North Sea (Norway/Great Britain), Russia and Kazakhstan. Since 1988, trading volumes have continued to increase from approximately 100,000 b/d to more than 300,000 b/d in 2010.

Tamoil’s activity in the crude oil sector meets both the requirements of its refineries and its trading activities. Tamoil has also diversified its portfolio of grades of crude oil. Previously, the vast majority of Tamoil’s crude oil supply originated from Libya, whereas in 2010, this figure is approximately 50%. As a result, Tamoil has become an important player in the crude oil market.

In addition, Tamoil has optimised its refinery runs by trading in a variety of grades of crude oil in order to meet the continuous changes in product quality specifications.

Refined Products & Petrochemicals

Although crude oil activity is a core part of Tamoil’s business, it is also active in products trading. The importance of Tamoil’s product business is not only demonstrated by it trading in a niche market, such as gasoil and jet fuel originating from Libya, but also by its activities in other markets (namely supplying Libya with certain products including mogas and other countries, such as Tunisia or Morocco, with jet fuel and gasoil).

Tamoil’s trading activities have always been very dynamic and today Tamoil is also active in the fuel oil and naphtha markets. In addition Tamoil is looking at other markets such as bio diesel and LNG.

Tamoil has always been known as an active player in the trading sector and its presence has, over the years, been re-enforced  through a very diversified portfolio of products and other oil derivatives products (such as  petrochemicals and olefins (pygas, methanol, crude C4, propylene, polyethelene, sulphur and urea). Due to Tamoil’s increasing activities in this area, it is now selling products directly to end-consumers in Europe as well as in the USA, the Middle East and Asia.
