Retail

With the acquisition of the Cremona and Collombey refineries, Tamoil’s retail activity began with a network of 774 stations in Italy and 258 stations in Switzerland. These networks have since been substantially expanded and developed to attain the solid market positions that they hold today.

Between 1991 and 1993, Tamoil invested in retail networks in several other European countries.

  • Germany: During the 1990s, Tamoil acquired a company now known as Deutsche Tamoil GmbH, a company operating 140 service stations in Germany.

  • The Netherlands: In 1992, Tamoil acquired the OK Beheer B.V. group of companies. Today, the principal Tamoil operating company in the Netherlands is Tamoil Nederland B.V., a Dutch retail company (known until 2003 as OK Nederland B.V.).

  • Spain: Tamoil entered the Spanish market in 1991, and has since developed a network of stations in the country.

In recent years, Tamoil have pursued a policy of constantly upgrading its investments in the service station networks, rationalising or expanding activity where appropriate, and thereby aiming to achieve significant improvements in network performance.

In Italy, the network has reached a nationwide presence of about 8%, with the second market highest property ratio (70%).

In Germany the network increased significantly through acquisitions and autonomous growth. Currently a network of 400 stations is operated under the HEM and the Tamoil brands.

In The Netherlands, Tamoil expanded its retail network with the acquisition in 2005 of 89 service stations.

At the end of 2009, Tamoil’s total number of operating service stations reached 2,881.

This achievement highlights the continual efforts made by the Group to pursue its objective of realizing a sustainable position in the European retail sector.
