Collombey

The Swiss Collombey refinery is located in the canton of Valais at Collombey-Muraz on the left bank of the Rhône. The loading facilities and a number of storage tanks are situated on the other side of the Rhône in the canton of Vaud which are linked to the Swiss Federal Railways network.

Collombey is currently a resid-cracking refinery with high degree of conversion, the core units were built in 1962, with an average throughput in 2009 of 2.4 million metric tons.

The Collombey refinery is supplied with crude oil by a 340 km oil pipeline linking the port of Genoa to Collombey.

After the acquisition of the refinery in 1990, Tamoil carried out major developments to its technical infrastructure and introduced modern production techniques. In 2004, the construction of the refinery’s total residue conversion units was completed. This project included a catalytic cracking unit that converts residues into high value light products.

The refinery currently produces unleaded 95 and 98 octane petrol, diesel oil, extra-light and heavy heating oil, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gases.

The Collombey refinery is one of only two refiners in Switzerland and the only domestic refiner with its own branded retail network. The refinery production accounts for approximately 20% of total oil products inland sales in Switzerland and therefore plays a key role in the oil sector of the country.

The refinery has 90 storage tanks with a total capacity of 795,000 cubic metres for crude oil and products.
